Due to getting a lot of requests from clients to do interviews on location, I looked into using green screen technology to eliminate the difficulties of filming in a small office – i.e the dull backgrounds and lack of space.
The traditional problem with green screen is the need to light the green screen brightly and evenly to get a good key. Apart from the challenge to light it brightly it also adds another lights to the 3 interview lights. Extra bulk that needs to by carried.
The system I opted for is a genius solution from Reflectmedia. (I’m not associated with them in anyway). This is the video that sold it to me
I’ve now used the set-up on a number of client project and have been really impressed with the results. It’s a relatively easy learning curve, but it’s taken me around 3 jobs to get all the components working well – i.e hardware/camera settings, lighting positions and post production.
On the next page I’ll discuss hardware/camera settings…

Great article here on using Scopbox Software with the Reflecmedia LED Green Screen System
The lite-ring power unit has a setting from 1 to 8, with 8 being the deepest green. The optimum lite-ring setting I’ve found is 0 -a neutral setting that is not dark or light in green tone.
EX-1 Settings
F-Stop: 5 (keep this as low as possible)
ND: 1 (this allows a lower F-Stop)
